Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has strongly criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives over their attempt to expel him from the party.

His reactions come after the NPP said it has initiated formal proceedings to expel him following remarks he made during a Channel One TV interview on January 12, 2026.

In the interview, Prof. Frimpong Boateng described the NPP as a “fake party” and stated that he no longer considers himself a member.

The NPP, in a strong rebuttal, dismissed the allegations as unfounded, asserting that the 2023 primary was conducted in a “free, fair, transparent, and credible manner” and reflected the will of the party’s delegates.

The party added that the process was widely accepted by participating candidates and respected members across its structures.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng openly condemned the party’s leadership, accusing them of being responsible for the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections.

He said “Look at how we lost the 2024 election: abuse of power, corruption, arrogance. The party could not stand up to anybody; everybody was doing what they wanted. Now you are saying you want to remove someone from the party? To hell with them.”

He claimed that some executives manipulated internal party processes for their personal benefit, noting that certain members were bribed while others were pressured to vote for preferred candidates.

According to him, this pattern of manipulation played a major role in the party’s electoral loss and continues to endanger its future.

“Instead of the executives writing a report for everyone to read and contribute, they are covering up things and allowing us to go into another election with the same format. It is very bad. The executives should leave, and the party will stand,” he added. “Not the fake one. The real one is there. It is a virtual thing. The members are in the background,” he said.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng further criticised the process used to elect the party’s last flagbearer. “Look at how they elected their last flagbearer, twisting people’s arms, bribing delegates and intimidating others to get a flagbearer. This is the beginning of corruption. This should not be allowed in any serious institution or any serious party,” he stated.
