The Tema Regional Police Command has made a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking after intercepting 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs during a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation along the Akosombo–Tema road.

The operation followed intelligence received on 10th January 2026, indicating that suspected narcotic substances were being transported from the Volta Region toward Tema.

Police teams immediately mounted surveillance along the route, with particular attention to the Agomeda Junction area.

At approximately 12:45 a.m. on January 11, 2026, two vehicles — a white Toyota Highlander (GS 2013-13) and a black Mitsubishi Pajero (GC 400-22) — were intercepted. The vehicles, driven by Isaac Odoi, 33, and Kwame Mani, 39, were found to be carrying several compressed yellow-wrapped parcels suspected to contain narcotic drugs.

Both suspects were immediately arrested, and the vehicles were escorted to the station for further investigation.

On January 12, 2026, the exhibits and suspects were handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Tema, where detailed photographs and inventories were taken.

A total of 872 parcels were discovered in the Mitsubishi Pajero, while 741 parcels were found in the Toyota Highlander.

The suspects remain in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations. Samples of the seized substances will be sent to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for analysis, and searches are planned at the suspects’ residences.

The Police are also preparing to process the suspects for court.

The Tema Regional Command reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities.

Authorities have urged the public to continue sharing credible information to support security efforts and help maintain safe communities.
