In a major development in a high-profile murder case, Ghana Police have arrested Joshua Karry Arthur, a key suspect in the brutal killing of a senior lecturer from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

The lecturer’s body was recently discovered secretly buried within the premises of his home in Essuokyir, a suburb of Winneba, Central Region.

According to the Central Regional Police Command, the arrest was made on Thursday, May 22, 2025, after a missing person’s report was filed by the lecturer’s colleagues.

Investigators who visited the lecturer’s residence uncovered bloodstains inside the house, which led to the shocking discovery of the buried body, located approximately 23 meters away under a heap of sand.

Key evidence recovered from suspect

In a significant breakthrough in the Winneba murder investigation, police found several personal belongings of the deceased in the possession of the suspect. Items recovered include:

  • Two Samsung smartphones

  • A laptop

  • A 50-inch television set

  • A car key to a Toyota Fortuner

These items, confirmed to belong to the slain lecturer, provide critical evidence tying Joshua Karry Arthur to the UEW lecturer’s murder.

Police investigation and legal proceedings

The suspect is currently in police custody and is said to be cooperating with investigators. Authorities have announced that he will be formally charged in court soon. The Central Regional Police have reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring justice for the murdered UEW lecturer.

The body has been transported to the morgue for autopsy and forensic analysis, as the homicide investigation continues to unfold.
