Stanbic donates ICT equipment to UHAS for digital learning

Stanbic Bank Ghana has made a significant donation of ICT equipment to the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho, aimed at promoting digital learning and enhancing teaching and research across the institution.
The donated items include 10 laptops, 20 tablets, an 85-inch smart television, and a high-quality multi-purpose video camera.
The donation was received by the Management of the University led by Vice Chancellor, Professor Lydia Aziato.
Leading the team from Stanbic Bank was Mr. Harry Opoku-Agyemang, Head of Personal Banking, who highlighted the importance of technology in modern education.
He noted that the bank recognizes technology as a critical tool in transforming education delivery, especially in the context of remote learning and virtual academic collaboration.
“In today’s digital world, access to technology is no longer a luxury—it is a necessity,” Mr. Opoku-Agyemang stated.
“This donation reflects Stanbic Bank’s belief in contributing meaningfully to national development beyond financial services. Education, particularly in health sciences, is a pillar for development, and we are proud to support UHAS in that journey.”
He emphasised that the equipment would not only enhance classroom learning but also enable UHAS to connect with institutions around the globe for remote lectures and research partnerships.
“You no longer need to fly in a lecturer from abroad; with the right tools, that lecturer can teach from their home country while students here in Ghana benefit from world-class instruction. This is the future of learning, and we are glad to be part of it,” he said.
He also underscored the role of technology in preparing local health professionals who can independently manage complex healthcare challenges.
“It is vital that Ghana trains its own specialists, capable of carrying out advanced procedures, without relying heavily on foreign expertise. That is why investment in health education is close to our hearts as a bank.”
Mr. Opoku-Agyemang encouraged students to approach the use of the equipment with creativity and ambition, stressing that technology alone is not enough—discipline, innovation, and commitment are needed to drive excellence.
Receiving the items, Vice Chancellor Prof. Lydia Aziato expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Stanbic Bank for the donation and their commitment to supporting education.
She described the gesture as timely and aligned with UHAS’s mission to become a leader in health education in the sub-region.
She used the opportunity to appeal to the bank for further collaboration in addressing some of the university’s pressing needs, including infrastructural development, hostel facilities, teaching and learning materials, and laboratory equipment.
“We believe this partnership can grow stronger, and together, we can provide the best possible environment for training the next generation of healthcare professionals,” Prof. Aziato said.
Ms. Yaa Amankwaa Opuni, Registrar of UHAS, also thanked the bank and assured that the equipment would be used responsibly and maintained well to serve their intended purpose.
The donation marks a significant step in the strengthening of ties between corporate institutions and academia and signals a shared commitment to advancing education and national development through innovation and investment in the health sector.
