Shaibu Haruna dedicates Fintech CEO Award to MoMo customers

Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney (MoMo) Limited, Shaibu Haruna, has been crowned CEO of the Year – Fintech at the 4th Ghana CEO Vision and Awards, an honour that recognises his visionary leadership, innovative drive, and outstanding impact in Ghana’s fast-evolving fintech ecosystem.

The award, presented at a ceremony that drew leaders from across the business and policy sectors, celebrates Shaibu’s pivotal role in strengthening MobileMoney Ltd’s position as a market leader in digital finance and in deepening financial inclusion in Ghana and beyond.

A testament to teamwork and innovation

In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Haruna attributed the win to the collective effort of the MobileMoney LTD and MTN Ghana teams.

“This recognition is a testament to the incredible work of the MobileMoney LTD team and the entire MTN Ghana team,” he said. “We remain committed to delivering cutting-edge digital financial solutions that empower individuals, businesses, and communities across Ghana and beyond.”

Mr. Haruna also dedicated the award to MobileMoney customers and stakeholders whose continued loyalty and support have fueled the platform’s growth and impact.

“Their partnership and commitment have been instrumental in using the MoMo platform to deepen financial inclusion,” he added.

A career spanning continents and sectors

Shaibu Haruna is no stranger to transformation. With over 25 years of commercial experience across Africa and the Middle East, his career spans sectors including Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Automobile, Financial Services, E-Commerce, and Telecommunications.

The past 18 years have been dedicated to digital services and telecoms, where he has led groundbreaking business transformations in markets such as Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia.

One of his most influential achievements was leading the development of MTN Ghana’s now-celebrated distribution model, which has been replicated in 21 MTN markets across Africa and the Middle East.

At the helm of a digital finance giant

In 2022, Shaibu was appointed CEO of MobileMoney Ltd, a subsidiary of Scancom Plc (MTN Ghana), the market leader in mobile financial services.

Under his leadership, the company has not only expanded its user base and service offerings but also enhanced Ghana’s reputation as a regional hub for digital finance.

Since its launch in 2009, MobileMoney Ltd has evolved into a cornerstone of Ghana’s financial inclusion strategy, providing secure, accessible, and user-friendly digital payment options for millions of Ghanaians.

The platform has unlocked economic opportunities, especially for underserved communities and micro-businesses.

Ghana CEO Vision and Awards

Organised by Globe Productions Ltd, the Ghana CEO Vision and Awards annually celebrate high-performing chief executives across more than 30 sectors.

The awards aim to highlight visionary leadership, measurable achievements, and social impact in driving Ghana’s development agenda.

This year’s edition reaffirmed the rising stature of the fintech sector and the role of innovative leadership in shaping the digital economy.
