Antoine Semenyo etched his name into Ghanaian football history on Friday night after surpassing Tony Yeboah to become the country’s second-highest scorer in English Premier League history.

The 25-year-old forward struck twice in Bournemouth’s 3-1 comeback victory over Fulham at the Vitality Stadium, moving his tally to 26 top-flight goals.

The brace not only secured the points for the Cherries but also carried personal significance, lifting Semenyo two clear of Yeboah’s long-standing record of 24.

Semenyo has enjoyed a blistering start to the season, finding the net six times in the league to sit behind only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, who has eight.

He also provided an assist against Fulham, taking his tally to three — a figure that places him just behind Jack Grealish in the overall assists chart.

The Bournemouth striker’s rise has been rapid. He has reached 26 goals in just 88 Premier League appearances, averaging one every three games. By comparison, Yeboah — a cult hero at Leeds United — played 47 matches over three seasons to score 24.

Yet the chase for top spot remains. Ghana’s all-time Premier League marksman Jordan Ayew, who has scored 42 goals in 305 appearances across 11 seasons, still leads the pack.

Semenyo is now 16 goals adrift but, given his superior scoring rate, looks well placed to close the gap if his current form continues.

Jeffrey Schlupp sits fourth among Ghanaian scorers with 22 goals in 280 appearances, the versatile Crystal Palace man also the only one in the top five to lift the Premier League title, with Leicester City in 2016.

Black Stars veteran André Ayew follows closely with 21 goals, rounding off the list of Ghana’s most prolific contributors to the English game.

For Semenyo, Friday night’s double not only powered Bournemouth to victory but also confirmed his growing stature as Ghana’s next big star in the Premier League.
