Hajia Samira Bawumia, wife of Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has commenced a nationwide campaign drive, beginning in the Central Region, to rally support for her husband’s bid to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections.
The former Second Lady began her grassroots engagements on Tuesday, marking the start of a carefully planned effort to consolidate support in key political battlegrounds.
The Central Region, in particular, is viewed as strategically significant, being the political stronghold of Dr. Bawumia’s main contender in the 2023 primaries, Kennedy Agyapong.
Mrs. Bawumia’s tour includes meetings with regional and constituency executives, delegates, and grassroots supporters. Her campaign message focuses on articulating Dr Bawumia’s vision for the NPP and Ghana’s future—emphasising his commitment to economic revitalisation, accelerated digital transformation, and inclusive governance under the NPP’s “Breaking the 8” agenda.
Addressing party supporters at one of the stops, Mrs Bawumia said her mission was not only to campaign but also to connect with the people and reaffirm her husband’s dedication to national progress
“We are here not just to campaign, but to listen and to affirm my husband’s unwavering dedication to the well-being of every Ghanaian and the strength of our great party,” she stated.
“He has the experience, the ideas, and the vision to lead us to victory in 2028.”
Over the years, Samira Bawumia has established herself as one of the NPP’s most dynamic and effective campaign figures.
Since entering active politics in 2012, she has gained national recognition for her eloquence, charisma, and strong appeal among women and youth—qualities that many credit as key to the NPP’s victories in the 2016 and 2020 general elections.
Political analysts have also praised her for introducing a “clean” and issue-based style of campaigning that has redefined the role of political spouses in Ghanaian politics.
“Samira Bawumia is not just a spouse; she is a force multiplier,” remarked Pomaa, an aide to Mrs Bawumia.
“Her appeal cuts across demographics, and her presence here sends a powerful message that the Bawumia campaign is leaving no stone unturned.”
The Central Region tour, according to campaign insiders, is only the beginning of a broader national outreach plan.
Mrs. Bawumia is expected to extend her engagements to other regions in the coming weeks, strengthening grassroots networks and energising party structures ahead of the crucial primaries.
Meanwhile, Vice-President Dr. Bawumia is conducting a parallel campaign tour in the Western North Region, where he is meeting delegates and outlining his policy vision.
The coordinated efforts by the political couple highlight the intensity of the race for the NPP’s flagbearership, scheduled for January 31, 2026.
With stakes high and competition fierce, the joint campaign underscores the Bawumia camp’s determination to secure a decisive victory and position the party for a historic third consecutive term in government.
