Rhetoric can’t solve dumsor in Kumasi – Collins Adomako

The Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako, has called on Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor to present concrete solutions to the persistent power outages in Kumasi rather than engaging in rhetoric.
Speaking in Parliament during the debate on the 2025 budget statement, Mr. Adomako expressed disappointment over the minister’s failure to outline clear measures to address the worsening electricity crisis in the Ashanti Region.

Businesses and households suffering
Mr. Adomako argued that businesses and households continue to suffer, and mere speeches will not alleviate their struggles.
He stressed that Kumasi, as a major economic hub, cannot afford to operate under such unreliable power conditions.
“During the visit of the Minister himself, he had cause to complain about the power situation in the Ashanti Region,” Mr. Adomako stated.
“So I was hoping that when the Energy Minister was on his feet debating, he would have sympathized with the businessmen whose cost of business has gone up and provide concrete solutions to resolve the problem, but he failed.”

Frustration over prolonged power cuts
His remarks underscored the frustration of many residents and business owners who have endured prolonged and erratic power cuts, commonly referred to as ‘dumsor.’
According to him, the government has not been able to put in place effective interventions to comprehensively address the issue despite numerous assurances.

Economic impact of power instability
Mr. Adomako also highlighted the economic impact of the power outages, noting that businesses are struggling due to increased operational costs caused by the unreliable power supply.
He warned that the situation is negatively affecting the local economy and urged the Energy Minister to prioritize the needs of the people by implementing immediate and sustainable measures to stabilize electricity supply.
“We need solutions, not rhetoric. The people of Kumasi deserve a reliable power supply, and it is the duty of the government to ensure that happens,” he emphasized.
