The Electoral Commission (EC) has suspended the re-collation process for the Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North parliamentary constituencies following challenges with critical election documents.
The re-collation and declarations follow an Accra High Court directive, which instructed the EC to complete the process for the disputed constituencies.
The court also ordered the Inspector-General of Police to ensure adequate security at collation centres.
Ablekuma North
The re-collation for Ablekuma North was stalled due to the absence of 62 pink sheets, a key requirement for verifying election results.
The returning officer’s inability to provide these documents made it impossible to finalize the process.
Dome Kwabenya
In Dome Kwabenya, missing hard copies of pink sheets for three polling stations created similar issues.
Although soft copies had been submitted by presiding officers, they could not be validated.
Both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) admitted they lacked hard copies, further halting the process.
The NPP attributed the missing documents to disruptions during the initial collation, citing violence in which agents were assaulted and election materials allegedly destroyed.
The EC has not announced a timeline for addressing the issues in Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North.
Background on re-collation
Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North are among nine constituencies flagged for re-collation following a High Court directive to address alleged irregularities in the December 7 general elections.
The EC has successfully completed and declared results for seven other constituencies, all favoring the NPP.
