A prison officer, Constant Clement Tei Gyabah, has been found dead in the River Pompo in the Obuasi East District of the Ashanti Region.
His body, along with his motorbike, was discovered on the morning of Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
According to a report by Citi News, the prison officer, Constable Gyabah was reportedly on his way to work around 5:00 a.m. during a light drizzle when the incident occurred at Obuasi East.
He is believed to have veered off the road and crashed into a concrete barricade placed along the river for pedestrian safety.
However, some residents suspect foul play, pointing to visible cuts on his body and suggesting he may have been hit by a vehicle.
The police have retrieved the body and deposited it at the morgue, while investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of death.
The Ghana Prisons Service has yet to release an official statement on the incident.
In June this year, residents of Sepaase near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region lived in fear, following the discovery of an almost decomposed body in a river in their community.
The dead man has since been identified by the police as Ernest Darko, who is about 38 years old. He was found lifeless in the Asuoyeboah River at Sepase on June 13, 2025.
Strangely, Ernest Darko’s mobile phone was found lying on the banks of the river and when the body was found and there were no marks of violence on it to suggest foul play in the death.
According to the Abuakwa District Police statement, “Upon receipt of the report, a team of Police personnel from Sepase, proceeded to the scene in the company of the complainant and some members of the community.
“At the scene, the mobile phone of the deceased was found lying on the riverbank, while the body was seen floating in the river.”
The police said the body was observed to be in an advanced state of decomposition, adding, “A careful inspection of the body revealed no visible marks of violence.”
