More than 490 constituency and regional youth organisers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have thrown their weight behind former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the party’s upcoming presidential primary.

The endorsement, announced during a meeting of party youth leaders on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, is seen as a major boost to Dr. Bawumia’s campaign as he seeks to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.

The youth organisers, drawn from all 16 regions of Ghana, praised Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, economic vision, and commitment to empowering the youth.

They cited his role in spearheading key government initiatives, including the digitalisation of public services, as evidence of his ability to modernise the country’s economy.

The youth organisers praised Dr. Bawumia for his “unwavering commitment to national development, digital transformation, sound economic reforms, and consistent dedication to empowering Ghana’s young people.”

The youth group made this known when they mobilised resources and picked up Dr. Bawumia’s nomination forms on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

The youth group said, “Our goal is to energise the youth base nationwide, ensuring a strong and vibrant grassroots presence ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.

“We believe in Dr. Bawumia’s ability to build a more inclusive, resilient, and prosperous Ghana. Our pledge today is not just a political endorsement; it is a solemn commitment to securing a better future for the next generation.”

The coalition further called on “all well-meaning Ghanaians, especially the youth, to unite behind Dr. Bawumia in his continued pursuit of economic resilience, job creation, and national progress.”

The group concluded with the endorsement of Dr. Bawumia’s candidature “with the blessings of our Regional Youth Organisers and a majority of polling station youth organisers.”

Earlier, more than 60 Members of Parliament (MPs) from the NPP thronged the private office of Dr Bawumia to formally declare their support for his renewed bid to lead the party.

Dr. Bawumia is expected to intensify his campaign, with rallies and engagements planned across the country as the primary date draws closer.
