Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoaku and his wife Mouha, who were discharged by an Accra circuit court, have been reinvited by the police.
The couple were asked to accompany the police personnel to the police station on Monday, February 17, after court proceedings.
Meanwhile an Accra Circuit Court has struck out the case in which Bishop Salifu Amoako and two others are being held over the October 12, 2024, East Legon accident, which resulted in two deaths.
The court’s decision came after representatives of the Attorney General prayed to withdraw the matter on Monday.
According to the State Attorney, upon the study of the documents, it was deemed necessary to allow the police to conduct further investigations to determine the direction the prosecution should take.
“As such we are before you this morning to withdraw the charge sheet against the three accused persons. Humbly submitted,” the state attorney added.
Defence counsel said he was hoping that they would enter nolle prosequi.
“If the prosecution wishes to withdraw charges preferred against the accused persons, we have no objection.”
The court, presided over by Mr Bright Samuel Acquah, held that: “If the AG that brought the case is now praying for the withdrawal of the case, and the counsel of the accused persons are in support of the withdrawal, the court has nothing to do.”
The prayer was granted, and the matter was struck out as withdrawn. The accused, (Bishop Salifu Amoako, Mouha Amoako and Linda Bempah) were discharged.
The accused persons were held for allowing their underage son (16-year-old) to drive without license.
They pleaded not guilty, and the court admitted them to bail.
The accused, Salifu Amoako, his wife Mouha, and Linda Bempah, were charged following an accident where the couple’s 16-year-old son , Elrad Salifu, allegedly drove a white Jaguar F-Pace Sports without a valid license, resulting in a collision with an Acura Utility Vehicle that caught fire tragically leading to the death of two persons on October 12, 2024.
Bempah, the third accused, and a personal assistant to Mouha, was said to have handed over the key to the Jaguar, with registration number GN 7801-20, to the teenager.
The minor, who has been convicted, drove the vehicle with his friend, Prince Tijani, towards Bawaleshie on the Dzanie Shaie Street.
As they approached a section of the road at the Mensah Wood Avenue Junction, the minor collided with the rear of an Acura 4×4 vehicle, with registration number GR 2542-23.
The collision caused both vehicles to be propelled across the road into a wall of a nearby house. Both vehicles caught fire and were burnt beyond recognition.
Two occupants of the Acura, Justine Agbenu, and Maame Dwomoah Boateng, both 12, were trapped inside and tragically perished in the blaze.
Elrad and two other occupants were rushed to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for treatment.
On December 19, 2024, a Juvenile Court in Accra sentenced Elrad to six months imprisonment. He was to serve his sentence at a Correctional Home.
He was to sign an undertaking not to drive till he is 18 years old among other restrictions.
