The statement said a police team was immediately dispatched to the scene, where officers encountered six young men wearing face masks and hoodies, and armed with machetes, firearms and other offensive weapons.

“The suspects opened fire on the police, who returned the fire. During the exchange of gunfire, three of the suspects were fatally wounded and later succumbed to their injuries, while the remaining three suspects, believed to have sustained gunshot wounds, managed to flee the scene,” the statement said.

It said police retrieved three face masks, three machetes, and one unregistered Royal 125 motorbike from the scene.

According to the statement, the bodies of the deceased suspects had been conveyed to the Police Hospital for preservation, identification and autopsy, while hospitals and health facilities within the area had been alerted to notify the police through the emergency lines should any male persons present with gunshot wounds.

The Tema Regional Police Command commended the officers involved in the operation and urged the public to continue supporting the police with timely information to help maintain peace and security.
