Police intercept GH₵1m in Ford Transit car at Juapong

On June 4, 2025, the Volta Regional Police Command launched an investigation after intercepting a staggering GH₵1,021,700 in one cedi notes and coins stashed in 68 fertiliser bags during a routine operation at the Juapong Snap Check point.

The interception occurred around 4:45 pm following a tip-off that led the police to stop and search a Ford Transit vehicle travelling from Ho toward Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The vehicle, driven by Edward Ansah, was found to be carrying a large volume of money concealed in bags typically used for packaging fertiliser.

Upon questioning, the driver claimed that he had been engaged by an unidentified man in Kumasi to convey the cash from Ho to Kumasi.

Police authorities say the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigations into what is being described as an unusual and potentially suspicious movement of such a large sum of physical cash.

A statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Felix Danku of the Volta Regional Public Affairs Unit confirmed the interception and the ongoing probe.
