Ghanaian football icons Thomas Partey and Doris Boaduwaa emerged as the top winners at the 2025 Ghana Football Awards, held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, June 14.
The annual event celebrated standout players, coaches, clubs, and legends who have distinguished themselves over the past season.
Partey wins third top award
Thomas Partey, midfield general for Arsenal and the Black Stars, clinched his third Footballer of the Year title, beating tough competition from Inaki Williams and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo.
Partey’s commanding performances in both club and international football saw him play a pivotal role in Ghana’s continuing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
Boaduwaa takes women’s crown
In the women’s category, Doris Boaduwaa of Spartak Subotica and the Black Queens was named Women’s Footballer of the Year, in recognition of her stellar season and decisive contributions during Ghana’s qualification campaign for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for Morocco in July.
Simpson dominates local category
Razak Simpson of Nations FC stole the show in the local category, taking home both the Home-based Footballer of the Year and the Goal of the Season awards.
His thunderous long-range strike against Hearts of Oak in match week 21 earned him national acclaim and recognition as one of the most exciting talents in the domestic league.
Asare, Amankona, Amponsah also honoured
Hearts of Oak’s Benjamin Asare was named Goalkeeper of the Year for his consistent performances between the posts, which led to a maiden call-up to the senior national team.
Berekum Chelsea striker Stephen Amankona and Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ forward Mary Amponsah were both honoured as top scorers in the men’s and women’s premier leagues, respectively.
Other major winners
Morocco and PSG star Achraf Hakimi was awarded Best African International Footballer.
Veteran coach Kwasi Appiah took home the Men’s Coach of the Year, while Abu Kassim of Police Ladies won Women’s Coach of the Year.
Bibiani GoldStars and Police Ladies were named Male and Female Teams of the Year, while Medeama Sporting Club took the award for Most Vibrant Club on Social Media.
Living Legends celebrated
Three distinguished football administrators — Mr. Harry Zakkour, Mr. Herbert Mensah, and Mr. Ken Mensah — received the prestigious Living Legend Award for their long-standing contributions to Ghanaian football.
Future and special awards
Jerry Afriyie won the Odartey Lamptey Future Star Award, highlighting him as a rising talent to watch.
Francis Yaw Frimpong-Pooley of Asante Kotoko was recognized with the Special Fans Award, while Mary Berkoe claimed the Home-based Female Player of the Year award.
Leadership and excellence
The Best Club CEO Award went to Hon. John Peter Amewu, lauded for his administrative success and strategic direction in football leadership.
The 2025 Ghana Football Awards once again served as a grand platform to celebrate excellence, spotlight rising stars, and reaffirm the promise and passion embedded in Ghanaian football at all levels.
