OSP intensifies pursuit of GRA, ex-PPA boss, National Cathedral etc

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is ramping up its fight against corruption, with several high-profile cases progressing through the courts.

Adjenim Boateng Adjei trial
The former CEO of the Public Procurement Authority, Adjenim Boateng Adjei, is facing eight counts of corruption, including using public office for profit. The case is currently in the case management phase and will continue on January 16, 2025, in Accra.

Northern development authority case
In Tamale, former executives of the Northern Development Authority and representatives of A&QS Consortium Limited are being tried on 11 counts of procurement corruption. Defence proceedings are ongoing, with the next hearing set for January 2025.

Kumasi Corruption Trial
In Kumasi, Alexander Kwabena Sarfo Kantanka awaits judgment on charges of corruption related to a public election. The case has experienced delays due to judicial reassignments.

Key investigations concluded
The OSP has finalized investigations into several cases and is determining the next steps:

Ghana Police Service cadet training
Investigations into recruitment corruption during Course 51 Cadet Officers Training have been concluded, with decisions on further action pending.

Gaming commission probe
The investigation into the Gaming Commission’s procurement contract with Turfsport Ghana Limited has ended, awaiting directives.

Charles bissue allegations
Claims of corruption and abuse of public office involving Charles Bissue from the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining have been thoroughly investigated, with subsequent actions pending.

Ongoing high-profile investigations
Several major investigations are still active:

National cathedral payments
The OSP is examining payments by former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta and others concerning the National Cathedral’s procurement and construction.

307 ambulances procurement
Irregularities in the procurement and maintenance of 307 ambulances by the Ministry of Health and Service Ghana Auto Group are under scrutiny.

National service authority misconduct
Allegations of corruption in recruitment and administrative practices within the National Service Authority are being investigated.

Illegal mining (“galamsey”)
A comprehensive investigation into illegal mining activities, focusing on Akonta Mining Limited and members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, is ongoing.

Ghana revenue authority transactions
Deals between the Ghana Revenue Authority and Tata Consulting Services concerning the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS) are under review, along with contracts involving Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited.

Public engagement and support
The OSP has called on Ghanaians to support its work by providing relevant information to help ensure accountability and justice.
