Organised Labour seeks engagement with SSNIT after calling off strike

Organised Labour has instructed its members to resume work today after concluding an emergency meeting yesterday.
This directive follows the industrial action declared on Friday, July 12, 2024, in protest against the Social Security and National Insurance Trust’s (SSNIT) decision to sell a 60 percent stake in four local hotels.
In a statement, the leadership of Organised Labour confirmed that SSNIT had officially communicated its decision to terminate the transaction.
Despite this development, Organised Labour has emphasized the need for SSNIT to address all outstanding issues related to the management of pensions, warning that failure to do so will prompt further actions.
The decision by SSNIT to terminate the sale came after Rock City Hotel withdrew its bid for the four hotels on Friday.
In a letter dated July 12, 2024, and addressed to the Director General of SSNIT, Rock City Hotel cited stakeholder concerns as the reason for the withdrawal.
The hotel highlighted that negative public commentary indicated SSNIT had not sufficiently engaged stakeholders regarding the sale.
“Following the commentary monitored…We believe that such negativity is not only injurious to our brand but also jeopardises the success of the investment we intend to make in these hotels,” Rock City stated in the letter. Additionally, Rock City consented to SSNIT publishing all or parts of the bid documents for public scrutiny, promoting accountability and transparency.
The hotels involved in SSNIT’s planned asset offload included Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, Ridge Royal Hotel, Busua Beach Resort, and Elmina Beach Resort.
