NPP Parliamentary Caucus to Trigger Motion to recall Parliament

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Caucus has announced plans to initiate a motion on Wednesday, October 23, to recall Parliament. According to Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, the NPP Caucus Leader, there was no substantial reason to justify Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin’s decision to adjourn the House sine die on Tuesday, October 22.

In a radio interview, Afenyo-Markin criticized Speaker Bagbin’s move, claiming it was an attempt to obstruct parliamentary operations. He urged the Speaker to respect the authority of the court, which had earlier issued rulings concerning parliamentary proceedings.

Afenyo-Markin further accused Speaker Bagbin of deliberately assisting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Caucus in preventing Parliament from functioning, thereby hindering critical government business ahead of the upcoming national elections. He argued that the Speaker’s actions were politically motivated and detrimental to the country’s democracy. Despite these challenges, the NPP Caucus intends to use legal means to ensure Parliament resumes its functions.
