Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced that water supply to parts of northeastern Accra will be temporarily disrupted on Friday, July 4, 2025, due to emergency repair works at the Kpong Treatment Plant.

The shutdown is scheduled to last from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., affecting thousands of households and businesses.

According to GWCL, the maintenance is necessary to ensure the continued reliability and efficiency of water distribution infrastructure across the affected areas.

Management has advised all residents to store sufficient water ahead of the planned shutdown, as the work is expected to span a 12-hour period.

Several communities affected

The areas expected to experience the interruption include parts of Dodowa, Oyarifa, Madina, Adenta, Ashaley Botwe, East Legon, Abokobi, Haatso, Agbogba, Ashongman, and surrounding communities.

These densely populated suburbs rely heavily on the Kpong Treatment Plant for their daily water needs.

Management emphasized that customers in these locations should make the necessary preparations, including storing water ahead of the scheduled outage to cushion themselves against the disruption.

Support for essential service providers

To minimize the impact on critical institutions, Ghana Water Limited is making arrangements to support essential service providers such as hospitals, emergency response units, and health facilities during the period of the shutdown.

The company has urged such institutions to reach out through designated lines in case of any urgent water supply needs.

Dedicated contacts for assistance include a toll-free number on Vodafone (0800 40000), landline (0302 2218240), mobile numbers (0207385089, 0207385090), and WhatsApp lines (0555123393 and 0555155524).

Company assures prompt restoration

While the announcement has sparked concern among residents, especially given the scale of the affected areas, GWL has assured the public that supply will resume immediately upon completion of the repair works.

Management also expressed its regret over the inconvenience the shutdown may cause and reiterated its commitment to providing safe and uninterrupted water services to its customers.

The emergency repairs, though disruptive, are part of broader efforts to upgrade and maintain key infrastructure in the Greater Accra Region, ensuring long-term efficiency in water delivery systems.
