A newly married man died in an accident at Tanokrom, a suburb of Takoradi. The man in his early 40s died on Friday, June 6, 2025.
The incident, which occurred around 10:20 a.m., left eyewitnesses in shock as emergency services rushed to the scene.
The accident happened when a haulage truck carrying timber lost control while heading toward Fijai from Tanokrom.
The truck veered into a Trotro minibus travelling from Takoradi to Kojokrom, resulting in a violent collision.
According to the Trotro driver, Nkansah Kyerematen, who is a newly married man, the truck appeared to reverse uncontrollably toward his vehicle near the Tanokrom Pipeano traffic light. In an attempt to avoid a collision, he swerved and accidentally struck a car behind him. Seconds later, the truck crashed into the Trotro.
“All the passengers began fleeing after my mate managed to force the door open,” the driver recounted.
“It was only later that eyewitnesses informed me one of the passengers had been run over by the trailer while trying to escape.”
According to reports by Takoradi-based Connect FM, the Fire Service arrived promptly to tow the truck, after which the body of the victim was retrieved.
The deceased has been identified as Bonnah, a businessman from Asankragwa. According to his relatives, he had just moved into his newly completed home in Apowa with his wife and their two-month-old baby.
He was reportedly on his way to Kojokrom to purchase tiles for their new home when the fatal accident occurred.
His body has been transported to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital morgue by officers from the Sekondi-Takoradi Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).
