The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced revised fees for Ghana Card services, with first-time adult registration now set at GH¢30 and card replacement costing GH¢200 at NIA District Offices.
The new charges take effect from February 2, 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday, January 26, 2026, the Authority said the adjustments follow parliamentary approval of amendments to the Fees and Charges (Miscellaneous Provisions) Regulations.
The changes, according to the NIA, are in line with government policy to periodically review public service fees.
This is the first review of Ghana Card fees since 2023. The NIA explained that rising operational costs—particularly in technology licensing, cybersecurity, and logistics—have made the revision necessary, as required under the Fees and Charges (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2022 (Act 1080).
The Authority noted that the new fees are designed to reflect the actual cost of delivering identity registration services while ensuring the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s national identification system.
“The fees have been reviewed to support efficient service delivery and the continued maintenance of the national identity infrastructure,” the NIA stated.
Under the revised structure, first-time registration for Ghanaian adults aged 25 years and above will cost GH¢30, while replacement of lost or damaged cards will attract a fee of GH¢200. Other services, including updates to personal information, will also be subject to approved charges.
Breakdown of key charges:
Card replacement: GH¢200
Card renewal: GH¢150
First-time registration (25 years & above): GH¢30
First-time registration (below 25 years): Free
Card transfer services: GH¢75
For foreign nationals, fees remain dollar-denominated. First-time registration is pegged at the cedi equivalent of US$120, while annual card renewal will cost US$78.
The NIA emphasized that first-time registration for children and other exempt categories will continue in accordance with existing government policy, reaffirming its commitment to inclusive access to national identification services.
Premium centre charges
At NIA Premium Centres, first-time registration, card renewal, nationality updates, and record updates with card replacement will each cost GH¢410, while card replacement alone will cost GH¢520. Record updates without card replacement at premium centres will attract a fee of GH¢165.
Fees for foreign nationals
The revised fees also apply to services under the Foreign Identification Management System (FIMS). First-time registration and nationality updates for foreigners will cost the cedi equivalent of USD120, while annual card renewal and replacement will cost the cedi equivalent of USD78. Multiple-year renewals will be charged at USD75 per annum, with record updates without card replacement remaining free.
The NIA assured the public that the revised fees will be applied transparently and responsibly, stressing that the adjustments are aimed at strengthening the national identity system to support governance, service delivery, financial inclusion, and national development.
