A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency executives in the Kusaug Traditional Area has openly expressed disappointment in President John Dramani Mahama, accusing him of failing to act decisively on the deteriorating security situation in Bawku.

At a press conference held on Tuesday, July 15, the executives from Binduri, Bawku Central, Pusiga, Tempane, Zebilla, and Garu said their people feel abandoned despite voting overwhelmingly for Mahama in the last election.

The executives stated that their trust in Mahama and the NDC was rooted in hopes for justice, peace, and the protection of Kusaug lives and customs.

“During the December 7th election, the Kusaug people voted not just for hope and progress, but for survival—placing their trust in the NDC and President John Dramani Mahama,” they said. “But that trust is now dangerously eroded.”

Citing the July 13 attack and the alleged burning of the Bawku Naba’s statue, the leaders said Mahama’s silence and inaction have only fuelled disillusionment.

“We are at a point where our own people see us as enablers of a system that has betrayed them completely. We refuse to continue risking our lives and integrity in the name of a government that appears to have no respect for our people,” they declared.

The executives warned that without visible and principled leadership from Mahama on the Bawku crisis, grassroots mobilisation in the region would be severely affected.

“We cannot defend what has become indefensible. The people of Kusaug have reached their limit,” they concluded.
