The government has announced that a state funeral will be held for the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, on Friday, November 28, 2025.

According to an official statement from the Office of the President, the ceremony will take place at Independence Square in Accra, with full state honours.

The funeral is expected to attract dignitaries from across the country and abroad, including heads of state, diplomats, and political leaders.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was a prominent political figure and women’s rights advocate.

She served as the founder and leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and was instrumental in the establishment of the 31st December Women’s Movement, which empowered women through education, entrepreneurship, and social initiatives.

In a statement, the government praised her as “a trailblazer whose legacy continues to inspire Ghanaian women and generations to come.”

Family sources of Nana Konadu indicate that a wake-keeping will precede the state funeral, followed by a private burial attended by close relatives and selected dignitaries.

Nana Konadu passed away earlier this year after a short illness.

Her death has been described as a great loss to the nation, particularly to those who admired her lifelong commitment to public service and women’s empowerment.
