The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has conducted a series of intelligence-led operations across the Eastern and Greater Accra regions, dismantling multiple drug dens as part of a festive season crackdown dubbed Operation White Ember.

In a statement shared on the Commission’s Facebook page, NACOC said the coordinated raids targeted known drug hotspots in Mamfe and Tutu in the Eastern Region, as well as Madina Redco Flats, Zongo Junction, and railway slum communities around Airport City in Accra.

The operation was extended on Boxing Day to Tema Community One and Teshie Nungua, where dozens of suspects were arrested and quantities of illicit drugs seized with support from the Commission’s K9 unit.

NACOC officers also carried out patrols at major shopping malls and along popular beaches in the capital as part of measures to curb drug-related activities during the holiday period.

In total, 72 suspects were arrested during the operations. Items recovered included ecstasy, methamphetamine, and cannabis-infused alcoholic beverages.

Beyond the arrests and seizures, NACOC underscored the broader social impact of the exercise, stating that the intercepted drugs potentially represent “thousands of lives saved from the brink of addiction” during the festive season.

Residents in affected communities reportedly gathered to cheer officers as suspected drug peddlers were removed from their neighbourhoods.

As part of the operation, NACOC also conducted on-the-spot public education, sensitising residents on the dangers of drug abuse and the wider impact of narcotics on community safety.
