MTN Ghana, has donated food items and cash to the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, ahead of this year’s Eidul Fitr celebrations.
The action is intended to support the Chief Imam in carrying out his social and spiritual duties during the holy month of Ramadan.
MTN Ghana presented cash of ₵20,000 to the Chief Imam plus a big ram to reaffirm its commitment to the Muslim community.
Other items donated include 30 bags of rice, 20 cartons of vegetable oil, 40 packs of mineral water, 10 cartons of canned drinks and 20 packs of assorted soft drinks
Speaking at the donation exercise at the Chief Imam’s residence, Chief Digital Officer at MTN Ghana, Ibrahim Mitso,expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support the Muslim community during the festive period.
“I am honored to be here with my colleagues to extend our warmest greetings to your Eminence and the entire Muslim community as we approach the joyous occasion of Eidul Fitr.
We recognize and appreciate the sacrifices made during this holy month and the values of generosity, compassion, and peace that it upholds—values that resonate with the MTN brand,” he said.
Ibrahim Mitso also revealed that similar donations would be extended to the Regional Chief Imams in the Ashanti, Western, and Northern regions.
Enhancing Customer Experience During Eid
Beyond the donation, he stated that MTN Ghana is rolling out initiatives to enhance customer experience during the celebrations.
He added that the company will set up service stands at key locations, where customers can Perform SIM swaps, Register for mobile money, conduct mobile money transactions and receive education on Mobile Money fraud prevention.
Ibrahim Mitso noted that these contributions were part of MTN’s appreciation for the Muslim community’s support, patronage, and loyalty to the brand over the years.
“We deeply value the role of the Chief Imam in promoting peace, tolerance, and national unity.
His tireless efforts in fostering interfaith harmony and social cohesion have significantly contributed to the stability and progress of our nation, creating an enabling environment for our business,” he noted.
MTN Ghana assured the Chief Imam and the Muslim community of its continued support in fostering a stronger partnership in the years ahead.
On behave of the Chief Imam, Spokesperson Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, expressed gratitude to MTN Ghana for the kind gesture and prayed for God’s blessings for the telecom giant to expand.
“This is a tradition of kindness and goodness that MTN embarks upon, and we are profoundly grateful,” he said.
He emphasized that the donated items would be used to support the less privileged and vulnerable members of the community.
“The blessings from this act of generosity will be plowed back to you because these are deprived people—poor and indigent—who will benefit from this food,” he stated.
Sheikh Aremeyaw further highlighted the significance of peace and harmony in Ghana, noting that the country’s religious tolerance allows for mutual respect and coexistence among people of different faiths.
Clarification on Eidul Fitr Date
Sheikh Aremeyaw also used the occasion to clarify the Eidul Fitr celebrations in Ghana, stating that the country would now rely strictly on local moon sighting to determine the exact date.
“If the moon is sighted on Saturday, Eidul Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday. If not, we will complete the full 30 days of Ramadan, making Monday the official Eid day,” he announced.
He assured the Muslim community that an official declaration would be made by the Chief Imam on Saturday evening, once the moon sighting process is completed.
