Mobile telecom giant MTN Ghana has announced a temporary disruption to its data bundle services following a major technical fault that struck on Monday, July 1, 2025.

The disruption has rendered customers unable to purchase data bundles across the network, sparking frustration among users on the same day the company was set to begin offering a new data bonus.

In a statement released by MTN, the company explained that the glitch occurred during the implementation of a new data promotion that was expected to give customers an additional 15% data volume on purchases starting July 1, 2025.

“Whilst implementing the data offer… MTN experienced a major technical issue which has affected data bundle purchases, including the data volume offer,” the statement said.

Bonus launch derails

The timing of the disruption has amplified the impact, as many customers had looked forward to taking advantage of the bonus offer, which was widely advertised in recent days.

Instead, users across the country found themselves unable to top up their internet access — a vital service for both personal and professional activities.

Social media platforms were flooded with complaints and inquiries as subscribers sought clarity.

MTN, in its notice, acknowledged the inconvenience caused and reassured customers that urgent steps were being taken to resolve the problem.

Technical teams on high alert

“Please be assured that our technical teams are working with urgency to resolve the issue and restore services as soon as possible,” the company said.

MTN has not provided a definitive timeline for full restoration but pledged to keep customers updated as the situation evolves.

The telecom provider also expressed gratitude for customer patience and understanding during the disruption.
