MobileMoney LTD has rolled out a nationwide Trust Campaign dubbed “Shine Your Eye” in a bold move to tackle the growing menace of MoMo-related fraud and reinforce its commitment to customer safety.

The campaign, which will run extensively across the country, is aimed at promoting vigilance among MoMo users while reassuring them of the safety of their funds.

It also seeks to educate customers on how to avoid falling victim to fraudsters who continue to exploit unsuspecting individuals through various social engineering schemes.

Campaign strategy and rollout

The “Shine Your Eye” initiative has been designed as a wide-reaching education and awareness drive.

MobileMoney LTD is deploying television, radio, print, online media, and social media platforms to spread critical safety messages.

Beyond these channels, the company is taking the campaign directly into communities, markets, transport hubs, and streets to engage customers face-to-face.

With the catchphrase “Shine Your Eye”, customers are constantly reminded of the need to remain alert and avoid risky behaviours that expose them to fraud.

The campaign employs relatable formats such as drama skits, music, dance, and interactive educational activities to ensure that the message reaches people of all ages, literacy levels, and cultural backgrounds.

The approach is intended to make fraud awareness both engaging and memorable, so that the public internalises the safety lessons.

Strengthening MoMo security

The launch of the campaign also highlights a series of new technological enhancements MobileMoney LTD has rolled out on the MoMo platform to protect users.

These include biometric login features that prevent unauthorised access to accounts, an easier process for resetting forgotten or compromised PINs, self-initiated reversals to enable customers to quickly recover funds sent to the wrong number, and a dedicated fraud support team to provide swift assistance to victims.

Management of the company explained that these innovations are part of a broader commitment to protect customer funds and to preserve the enormous progress Ghana has made in deepening financial inclusion through mobile money.

Management’s assurances

Speaking at the launch of the campaign, the Chief Commercial and Operations Officer of MobileMoney LTD, Abdul Razak Issaka Ali, underscored the importance of building trust as the backbone of the company’s operations.

He explained that the essence of “Shine Your Eye” is to give customers peace of mind, assuring them that mobile money remains not only convenient but also safe.

“At the heart of our business is customer trust. This campaign is about giving our customers peace of mind—that MoMo is not only convenient but also safe. We are engaging them directly, listening to their concerns, and speaking to them in a language they understand and can relate to,” Mr. Ali said.

He further revealed that MobileMoney LTD is working closely with Ghana’s security agencies to identify and clamp down on fraudsters.

According to him, the combination of public vigilance and security collaboration will make it increasingly difficult for scammers to operate within the MoMo ecosystem.

Safety guidelines for customers

In stressing the importance of vigilance, Mr. Ali reminded customers never to disclose their MoMo PINs or One-Time Passwords (OTPs) under any circumstances, not even to persons who claim to be staff of MoMo or MTN.

He also advised that customers should not allow anyone to carry out transactions on their behalf, as such practices often lead to exploitation.

He cautioned against entertaining suspicious calls and messages that request personal information or links to promotions that promise rewards.

These, he explained, are common tactics fraudsters use to lure victims into compromising their accounts and losing their funds.

Reporting fraud and blacklisting offenders

MobileMoney LTD also used the occasion to remind the public that it has established multiple reporting channels for fraud incidents.

Customers who encounter fraud attempts or fall victim can reach out through the MoMo App, by calling 100, or via email at mmfraudteam@mtn.com

The company revealed that reports from vigilant customers have over the years led to the blacklisting of several suspected agents and phone numbers associated with fraudulent activities.

By encouraging timely reporting, the company believes it can dismantle fraud networks more effectively and protect the integrity of its platform.

Expected outcomes of the campaign

The “Shine Your Eye” campaign is expected to deliver a number of critical outcomes for both customers and the broader mobile money ecosystem.

One of the immediate goals is to reduce the incidence of fraud by equipping customers with the knowledge to spot fraudulent behaviour and avoid falling prey.

With widespread education and awareness, MobileMoney LTD hopes that fewer customers will lose their funds to scammers.

Another expected outcome is the strengthening of customer trust. In an era where fraudsters exploit digital platforms, reassurance that MoMo is safe is vital for sustaining its adoption.

This trust will, in turn, reinforce the broader financial inclusion agenda that has seen millions of Ghanaians gain access to financial services through mobile money.

The campaign is also anticipated to empower customers, particularly those in rural and underserved areas, who may not always be aware of fraud tactics.

By taking the education directly to markets, transport yards, and communities, MobileMoney LTD hopes to bridge the knowledge gap and give customers the tools to defend themselves.

Furthermore, the company expects to deepen collaboration with security agencies through the campaign.

By sharing intelligence and working together to track, arrest, and prosecute fraudsters, MobileMoney LTD believes fraud can be curtailed significantly.

In the long term, the initiative will contribute to a stronger and safer financial system that benefits both individuals and the national economy.

Securing the future of financial inclusion

MobileMoney LTD emphasised that the protection of customers from fraud is not only about safeguarding individual accounts but also about securing the future of financial inclusion in Ghana.

With over half of the adult population actively using mobile money services, the risks posed by fraud could undermine years of progress.

The “Shine Your Eye” campaign, therefore, stands as a proactive intervention to ensure that fraud does not erode confidence in mobile money and that customers continue to embrace digital financial services with trust and assurance.

“The ‘Shine Your Eye’ campaign is not just about preventing fraud; it is about preserving the trust that underpins financial inclusion in Ghana,” Mr. Ali added.
