Mobile money transactions in Ghana continue to surge, hitting a record GH¢365 billion in April 2025, according to the latest data from the Bank of Ghana.

This milestone highlights the growing reliance on digital payments and mobile money services across the country.

The significant growth in mobile money usage is driven by increasing smartphone penetration, improved access to financial technology (fintech) platforms, and consumer preference for cashless payment solutions.

The GH¢365 billion figure marks a substantial increase compared to the same period in 2024, reflecting continued momentum in Ghana’s digital financial ecosystem.

According to the Bank of Ghana, the mobile money transactions or MoMo represent a month-on-month increase of 3.8% from GH¢351.7 billion recorded in March 2025.

This upward trend in mobile money growth in Ghana signals a transformative shift toward a cash-lite economy, Mobile money transactions hit GH¢365 billion offering new opportunities for fintech startups, investors, and consumers alike.

Mobile Money has transformed financial services in Ghana, enabling millions to send, receive, and store money securely via their phones.

MTN MoMo leads the sector, with Vodafone Cash and AirtelTigo Money also offering vital services across the country.

  • Over 55% of adult Ghanaians use mobile money services.

  • It is the preferred method for sending/receiving money, paying bills, and accessing loans.
