Lydia Seyram Alhassan refutes claims she caused arrest of security man at Legon campus

Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, has debunked allegations circulating on social media accusing her of causing the arrest of a campus security officer for allegedly expressing dissenting political opinions.
Describing the claims as “false and malicious propaganda,” Lydia asserted that these unfounded accusations were a deliberate attempt to tarnish her reputation and undermine her longstanding commitment to the welfare of the University of Ghana community.

Reaffirming commitment to fairness and inclusion
The MP categorically denied the allegations, emphasizing her history of fair and inclusive leadership.
“I have always been a compassionate and fair leader. I have never based my engagements on political preferences, nor have I ever sought to silence dissenting voices,” she said, reiterating that her dedication to the community transcends political affiliations.
Lydia Seyram Alhassan pointed to her consistent support for the University community as evidence of her commitment, stating that these values are well-known to the people she serves.

Meeting with campus security personnel
She provided context for her recent engagement with campus security personnel, which she believes has been misrepresented. The meeting, she explained, was intended to address their challenges and ensure adequate safety measures for students, particularly as the country approaches elections.
“This engagement reflects my continued investment in the security of students, from providing vehicles and motorbikes to enhance security personnel visibility, to installing streetlights in dark areas to prevent crime,” she noted.
She expressed disappointment that her genuine efforts to prioritize campus safety have been twisted into baseless allegations.

A call for unity against propaganda
Addressing the University of Ghana community directly, Hon. Lydia called on students and stakeholders not to be swayed by what she termed “lies and propaganda.”
She encouraged them to reflect on her tangible contributions to the institution, which she argued stand in stark contrast to the claims of her detractors.
“Students, you are the heart of this great institution. I see your concerns, value your aspirations, and remain committed to creating an environment where you can thrive without fear or insecurity,” she assured.

Election appeal
Hon. Lydia concluded her statement by urging the University community to focus on the progress made during her tenure.
She also appealed for their support in the upcoming elections, asking them to vote for her as Member of Parliament and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as President.
“Let us rise above the falsehoods and vote for Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan as our Member of Parliament and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as President.
“Together, we will continue to build a better and more secure future for the University of Ghana and Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency,” she stated.

A track record of service
Over the years, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan has spearheaded numerous development initiatives in Ayawaso West Wuogon, particularly within the University of Ghana community.
These include investments in campus security, infrastructure development, and student welfare projects, demonstrating her commitment to the constituency’s growth and safety.
With this latest statement, the MP hopes to dispel any doubts about her integrity and reaffirm her unwavering dedication to serving her constituents with fairness and compassion.
