A legal dispute has emerged over the funeral arrangements of Ghanaian highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, following reports that his first wife, Mrs Akosua Serwah Fosuh, has filed an injunction to halt the announced funeral plans.

According to a press release issued by the direct family on October 9, 2025, Mrs Fosuh — who is the legally wedded wife of the late musician — has taken legal action after the funeral committee, led by Abusuapanyin Kofi Wusu, allegedly announced funeral dates without consulting her or their children.

The family described the situation as “deeply distressing,” emphasising that the announcement was made without their knowledge or consent.

The statement condemned the actions of the funeral committee as “disrespectful and contrary to both cultural and moral principles.”

“Hearing about your own husband’s funeral plans for the first time through social media is deeply distressing,” the statement read.

“This situation clearly shows that Abusuapanyin Kofi Wusu and the funeral committee are acting in their own interests, without regard for the wishes and rights of the deceased’s direct family.”

The family also clarified that Daddy Lumba was legally married to Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh in Bornheim, Germany, on December 23, 2004, and that under German law, a person cannot enter into another marriage while legally bound to an existing spouse.

“Mr Charles Kwadwo Fosuh was a citizen of the Federal Republic of Germany and was legally married to Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh. Under German law, no man who is already legally married can enter into another marriage,” the statement added.

The family revealed that they have been marginalised in decisions surrounding the late musician’s burial and that ongoing investigations are still examining the exact cause of death.

Mrs Fosuh’s injunction, according to sources close to the family, seeks to restrain the funeral committee from proceeding with any publicised funeral arrangements until due consultations are held with the immediate family and all legal matters are resolved.

The development has sparked widespread public discussion, given Daddy Lumba’s iconic status in Ghana’s music industry.

The singer, who passed away on July 26, 2025, is celebrated as one of the most influential figures in Ghanaian highlife, with a career spanning over four decades.

As legal proceedings unfold, fans and the general public are being urged to disregard any unofficial funeral announcements until an official statement is issued by the late musician’s direct family.
