Kpandai: NDC youth protest

Members of the youth wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kpandai on Monday staged a protest, calling on the party’s national leadership to seek a review of the Supreme Court ruling that overturned a High Court decision which had annulled the 2024 Kpandai parliamentary election won by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Matthew Nyindam.

The protesters marched through the principal streets of Kpandai, chanting slogans such as “No Nsala, no NDC in Kpandai,” while demanding swift and decisive action from the party’s leadership.

They argued that the NDC, as the governing party, must adopt a firm position by rejecting the Supreme Court ruling unless it leads to a rerun of the parliamentary election in the constituency. The youth group further called for the party to apply for a judicial review of the judgment and to enforce discipline among some constituency executives, whom they accused of failing to adequately represent the interests of party members.

According to the group, the protest was aimed at defending the credibility of the party and seeking justice for its supporters in Kpandai.

Demand for review

Addressing the media after the march, leaders of the youth group urged the NDC’s National Executive Committee and Legal Directorate to file an application for judicial review once the Supreme Court publishes the full reasons for its decision on February 6, 2026.

In a press statement, the group maintained that the party had a strong legal case before the Tamale High Court. They said the earlier High Court ruling in favour of the NDC was based on what they described as sound legal reasoning, including alleged defects in gazette notifications, inconsistencies in publication dates, and the Electoral Commission’s alleged failure to uphold its constitutional duty of neutrality.

Despite the strong demands, the youth leaders reaffirmed their commitment to peace and constitutional processes, urging supporters to remain calm while all available legal options are pursued.
