Frank Davies, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and legal practitioner, has set the record straight regarding the absence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from coming to Ghana to be probed by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
According to Davies, Ken Ofori-Atta is not being evasive, contrary to speculations circulating in the media and among opposition figures.
Instead, he emphasised that Ofori-Atta is currently unwell, and his health condition has understandably limited his public appearances.
His comments come amid growing concerns and accusations that the former minister was deliberately avoiding accountability and public scrutiny.
Frank Davies in an interview on Accra-based Joy FM addressed these concerns head-on, stating “If I tell you that I will come and see you tomorrow, and just on the brink of tonight, I suffer a casualty, would you see me tomorrow?
Davies asked rhetorically asked “Why should it be so difficult for people to understand that the person involved has a health challenge?… This was known long before these charges were prepared against him; who didn’t know that Ken was not well?”
If Ken Ofori-Atta is not avoiding accountability—his absence is due to health reasons, as confirmed by Frank Davies, it remains essential that media outlets, political figures, and citizens understands when the former minister will return for investigations.
This development comes after the OSP invited the former minister for questioning as part of ongoing investigations related to his tenure in office.
According to the OSP, the inquiry is believed to involve financial transactions and procurement processes during his tenure under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Ofori-Atta, who is reportedly abroad, emphasised in his response that he remains committed to cooperating fully with the investigation. He proposed a virtual meeting via Zoom or another secure platform.
The OSP warned that if Ofori-Atta fails to report by the stipulated date, his name will be reinstated on the list of wanted persons in Ghana, and he will again be officially declared a fugitive from justice.
In that event, the Office stated that it will begin the formal process to request an INTERPOL Red Notice, which could lead to international arrest and extradition.
