A Form Three student of Islamic Senior High School (SHS) in Kumasi, identified as Abass, has died after falling from the top floor of the school’s administration block on Tuesday, 18 November 2025.

The deceased has been buried according to Islamic tradition.

Sources at the school indicate that Abass had been struggling with suicidal thoughts, although the administration was reportedly unaware of any such intentions.

Abass, a Business student of the Islamic SHS and acting Boys’ Prefect, fell during school hours, prompting students and staff to rush to the scene.

Reports stated that the deceased had allegedly been contemplating suicide for some time. However, school authorities were unaware of his intentions.

According to persons close to the family, including his mother and uncle, as well as some students, Abass had previously hinted at harming himself; however, these statements were dismissed as jokes and not taken seriously.

He was immediately taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

In July this year, three students were tragically killed in separate gun attacks at Nalerigu and Bawku Senior High Schools (SHS) over the weekend, prompting the government to evacuate students from the conflict-stricken regions and step up military deployments.

The deadly assaults, believed to be part of the renewed escalation in the Bawku conflict, have sent shockwaves across the country and heightened calls for urgent intervention.

On Saturday evening, two male students of the Nalerigu Senior High School in the North East Region were gunned down in their dormitory by unidentified assailants.

The students, identified only as Lukman and Gideon, were reportedly relaxing in their room when the attackers stormed the premises and opened fire.

The Assembly Member for the Denugu Electoral Area—who is also an uncle of one of the deceased—confirmed the incident and expressed outrage over the security breakdown that allowed armed men to access the school compound.
