Minister of Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, stressing that the national team has failed to show convincing progress under his leadership.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM noted that despite the high expectations following Otto Addo’s reappointment, the team has not delivered the level of performance Ghanaians expect on the international stage.

“Very soon, AFCON will kick off in Morocco. Are we going to be part of it? No—we’ll be watching on TV. We haven’t even secured World Cup qualification yet. We still need at least a win and a draw to be certain that no one in our group can overtake us,” Adams said.

He emphasised that while Addo has the support of the Ministry and the Ghana Football Association (GFA), results on the pitch remain the ultimate measure of his success.

Kofi Adams also underscored the importance of rebuilding public confidence in the Black Stars, urging the coach to make bold tactical decisions and instill a winning mentality in the squad.

He indicated that Otto Addo’s performance does not merit praise at this stage.

Adams said “If I tell you I’m impressed, then it means I don’t understand my job. I’m not. There’s a lot of room for improvement. Even the coach himself admits when he gets things wrong and takes responsibility.

“But the question is: how long can you keep taking blame for poor decisions?” he questioned.

The Minister’s comments come at a time when many football fans have voiced concerns over the team’s recent performances, with some questioning whether Otto Addo is the right man to lead Ghana to glory in upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Despite the criticism, Adams assured that the government remains committed to providing the necessary support for the Black Stars, but insisted that the technical team must show clear improvements in strategy and results.

His reactions come after Ghana beat Mali 1-0 in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium with Alexander Djiku’s improvised finish in the 49th minute serving as the winner.

Ghana stay on top of Group I with 19 points from eight games with Madagascar in second place with 16 points.
