Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur Kwaw Kese has announced plans to start a poultry farm as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s agricultural initiative, Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti.

The project aims to expand poultry and fresh-egg production across hundreds of households, promote local agribusiness, reduce imports, and empower young farmers.

‘Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti’ project

The ‘Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti’ initiative, a flagship government programme aimed at revitalizing Ghana’s poultry sector, is set to officially launch in October 2025, following a postponement from its original July launch date.

The programme, championed by President John Dramani Mahama, aims to drastically reduce Ghana’s annual $300 million expenditure on imported chicken by empowering 55,000 households and commercial farmers to produce poultry domestically.

The government has already begun procuring day-old chicks and battery cages, with beneficiary lists being finalized and procurement processes nearing completion.

Big plan by Kwaw Kese

In light of this national strategy, Kwaw Kese said he will launch a poultry farm under Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti.

The musician cited the government’s push for local poultry production, with incentives and infrastructure support, as a compelling reason to invest.

He expects his farm to contribute fresh poultry and eggs to local markets, possibly integrating with Hatchery, feed supply, and local distribution channels.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz, he said he wants to expand his business interests especially farming beyond music.

“I do maize and cassava farming. I am ready to jump into the ‘Nkokɔ Nkitinkiti’ to start a poultry farm, so the government can help me,” he said.

Kwaw Kese emphasised that his farm project will create jobs—particularly for young people—and support skills development in poultry farming.
