IGP Yohuno pledges to uphold integrity of police profession

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has pledged to uphold the values, traditions, and culture of the Ghana Police Service, consistent with the resetting agenda of President John Dramani Mahama.
This, he said, was in alignment with the transformation and modernization of the Ghana Police Service.

Commitment to professionalism and discipline
“In this regard, the guiding principles will include discipline and respect for seniority within the hierarchical structure of the Service,” IGP Yohuno stated in his acceptance speech during his inauguration at the Presidency in Accra by President John Dramani Mahama.
The IGP assured the President that professionalism, transparency, accountability, and fairness shall underpin his administration, focusing on renewing attitudes and performance, thereby positioning the Service to meet the aspirations of the Ghanaian people and foster peace and security in the country.

“Let me reaffirm a fundamental truth: policing is a shared and collective responsibility,” he said. “Consequently, community engagement, community policing, and partnership will be essential strategies for communities to participate in crime prevention and fighting.”

Acknowledging support and past achievements
He expressed his profound gratitude to the President for the honor bestowed on him by appointing him to the prestigious position as the IGP, adding that being entrusted with such a pivotal role signifies a personal milestone.
He said it also acknowledges the dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence that had formed the bedrock of his policing career since he joined the Service as a recruit in 1985.
“This leadership position transcends mere title; it embodies a solemn responsibility that demands unwavering vigilance, integrity, and the ability to make decisions that safeguard the safety, security, and well-being of our citizens and beyond,” the IGP said.
“I approach this responsibility with the utmost seriousness, fully recognizing the weight of expectations accompanying this role.”

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his family, colleagues, and loved ones for supporting him throughout his journey.
“Your guidance and trust have been instrumental in shaping me into the leader I am today, and I will continue to depend on your expertise as we work collectively to reset and consolidate the norms and traditions of our institution,” he stated.
IGP Yohuno also acknowledged the remarkable achievements of his predecessors, whose dedication and excellence had paved the way for their present endeavors.

Vision for the future
To the courageous policemen and women who believe in his ability to lead, IGP Yohuno said he was committed to remaining diligent and transparent in all pursuits to collectively build the Service they aspire to for their beloved nation.
He said by fostering a secure environment where justice, peace, and stability flourish, they could create the conditions necessary for everyone’s well-being.
“I will strive to uphold the values and standards that have defined this Office for generations. I will do everything within my power to ensure that our security remains responsive and proactive,” IGP Yohuno said.
“I am both honored and eager to embark on this new chapter in policing, and I look forward to collaborating with each of you to cultivate a safer and more secure environment for the people of Ghana,” he added
