IGP Dampare pledges comprehensive security for december 7 election

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has announced that extensive security measures have been implemented to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and fair general election on December 7, 2024.
As chairman of the National Elections Security Task Force, Dr. Dampare assured Ghanaians that the Ghana Police Service is committed to securing not only Election Day but also all post-election activities, including the inauguration of the next government.

Police presence to enhance security nationwide
Dr. Dampare provided these assurances on Friday, November 15, 2024, at the commissioning of three newly constructed police stations in the Eastern Region.
These stations, including a state-of-the-art model station located in Akyem Muoso, Akyem Abekoase, and Akyem Moseaso, were built through the collaborative efforts of local residents and benevolent organizations dedicated to enhancing the safety and well-being of the people in the region.

Commitment to professionalism and neutrality
In his keynote address, the IGP emphasized that the Service’s loyalty is solely to the nation, promising that law enforcement agencies will operate without bias toward any political party or candidate.
He reassured citizens of the Service’s professionalism, fairness, and strict enforcement of the law throughout the electoral process.
Dr. Dampare further encouraged the public to exercise their voting rights without fear, emphasizing that the security arrangements in place will ensure a peaceful environment for the elections.
He urged Ghanaians not to allow themselves to be manipulated by any group or individual for selfish purposes that could disrupt national peace, warning that those who break the law will face the full force of justice.

Gratitude for community support
The IGP expressed his profound gratitude to the chiefs and people of these communities for their continuous, invaluable support to the Police.
He commended their decision to provide land for the construction of the police stations, describing it as a demonstration of their trust in the current Police Administration’s mission to make the Ghana Police Service the best institution in the country and a reference point across Africa and beyond.

Call for responsible citizenship
The IGP also encouraged Ghanaians to act responsibly and resist any incitement that could jeopardize the country’s peace. He issued a firm warning that any group or individual attempting to cause unrest will be held accountable.
With less than a month until the polls, Dr. Dampare’s remarks aim to instill confidence in the public regarding the readiness of the Ghana Police Service, ensuring citizens can look forward to a secure and transparent electoral process
