The Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has assured a thorough investigation into the death of Ms. Lois Abena Koranteng, a 24-year-old Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) graduate.
Dr. Dampare pledged that the police would work closely with Ms. Koranteng’s family as the investigation continues.
On Wednesday, July 10, the IGP personally contacted the bereaved family via telephone to express his apologies.
The apology came in response to dissatisfaction expressed by the family regarding the level of police engagement with them on the matter.
The police issued a statement, signed by the Director of Public Affairs, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, assuring the family of ongoing investigations and the readiness of the police to provide updates at the family’s convenience.
Ms Koranteng the 24-year-old KNUST graduate was found dead in a swimming pool at the CrisLord Palace Hotel in Takoradi.
It is sad to note that Ms Koranteng lost both her mother and grandmother this year, who are yet to be buried.
The police statement indicated that an autopsy report from a pathologist at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital revealed the cause of death as asphyxia, severe pulmonary edema, and drowning.
The tragic incident occurred on June 8 , 2024, when Ms. Koranteng had checked into the hotel with a senior colleague and a driver.
