On June 12, 2025, the National Communications Authority (NCA) abruptly suspended the broadcast licenses of 62 FM radio stations, including prominent names such as Asaase Radio and Wontumi FM, citing regulatory non-compliance.

This drastic action triggered public outcry over the potential erosion of press freedom.
