He said “This is a national tragedy. This morning I visited three of the deceased families, and I will continue that exercise tomorrow, Saturday, August 9. This is personal to all Ghanaians, and I want to extend my condolences to the government, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, families, Ghana Armed Forces, who have lost gallant soldiers.”

“It’s a very painful loss. Ghana has lost a tremendous amount from this particular tragedy. This is why I’m here to lay a wreath to express my condolences. This is not a partisan issue; it is a national tragedy, and you should expect full participation because it is our national duty to fully participate,” Dr Bawumia added.

The tragic incident occurred when a Ghana Air Force helicopter crashed in the Adansi District of the Ashanti Region.

Dr. Bawumia also paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, calling them patriotic men and women who dedicated their lives to safeguarding the peace and security of our country.

He urged Ghanaians to stand united in mourning and to offer support to the families affected, stressing that such moments should bring the nation closer.

Among the deceased were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress Samuel Sarpong, Deputy Director-General of NADMO Samuel Aboagye, and three members of the Ghana Air Force — Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Tsum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo.
