GTEC releases names of 50 unrecognised foreign universities

GTEC publishes list of 50 unaccredited foreign universities operating in Ghana

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has issued a strong warning to the public and heads of tertiary institutions following the discovery of 50 institutions operating without official recognition.

In a statement signed by its Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, GTEC revealed that these institutions have failed to satisfy the Commission’s accreditation and quality assurance requirements.

As a result, they are not authorised to operate as tertiary institutions in Ghana.

The Commission cautioned students, parents, employers, and educational institutions to treat this notice seriously and refrain from engaging with any of the unaccredited entities.

It further warned that certificates and qualifications awarded by such institutions will not be recognised for employment or further education in Ghana.

The list, GTEC stated includes both Ghana-based and foreign universities, names several well-known unaccredited bodies such as:

  • Universidad Azteca (Mexico)
  • Indian School of Management and Studies (India)
  • Breyer State Theology University (USA)
  • Debest College of Science, Arts and Business (Ghana)
  • Osiri University (USA)
  • Atlantic International University (USA)
  • Faith University Seminary (FUS) (Ghana)
  • Christian University College (Monrovia, Liberia)
  • Rhema Bible Training College (RBTC) (USA)
  • Universidad Empresarial de Costa Rica (Costa Rica)
  • Selinus University of Sciences and Literature (Italy)
  • Crown University International Chartered (USA)
  • Monarch Business School (Switzerland)
  • City University (Cambodia)
  • Kesmond International University (USA)
  • Washington University of Barbados (Barbados)
  • London Academy of Technology and Management (UK)
  • IICSE University (USA)
  • Doxa Open University (Ghana)
  • Brainae University (USA)
  • University of Hanna (Germany)
  • Christian Leadership University (USA)

GTEC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s higher education system and urged the public to always verify the accreditation status of any tertiary institution and foreign universities before enrolling.
