GPHA Unveils Multi-Purpose Vessel

In a move aimed at bolstering Ghana’s maritime capabilities, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has launched a Multi-Purpose Vessel at the Port of Tema.
This vessel, designed to handle a wide array of crucial operations, is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing both the safety and sustainability of the country’s maritime activities.
Named after Mr. Gordon Anim, a respected figure in Ghana’s maritime industry who dedicated 35 years to the Port Authority, the MPV Gordon Anim is a significant step towards ensuring Ghana’s continued leadership in regional maritime operations.

During the commissioning ceremony, GPHA’s Director-General, Michael Achagwe Luguje, in a speech read on his behalf by the Director of Port of Tema, Mrs. Sandra Opoku emphasized the vessel’s importance for the country’s maritime growth.
According to the Director General, Mr. Anim’s legacy, which includes his tenure as Director of both the Tema and Takoradi Ports, underscores the importance of this new vessel.
He highlighted the vessel’s innovative design, which includes capabilities for oil spill response, hazardous material containment, and waste collection, all critical in promoting environmental protection and operational efficiency.
Mr. Luguje said, the versatile vessel is poised to address both operational challenges and environmental concerns across Ghana’s major ports, ensuring that the nation remains at the forefront of maritime excellence in West Africa.
She said the MPV Gordon Anim is designed to handle a variety of maritime operations, including oil spill responses, hazardous material containment, and waste collection at sea. She added that the vessel’s advanced technology and versatile capabilities align with GPHA’s goals of embracing innovation and sustainability in the maritime trade.
The Director of the Port of Takoradi, Peter Amo-Bediako, extended his best wishes to the vessel, expressing hope that it would play a significant role in enhancing the success of GPHA.
On his part, Mr. Anim expressed his profound gratitude to the board, management and staff of GPHA for the honor done him, which he said, will go a long for him to continue to contribute towards the development of the maritime sector.
This MPV will also help address both environmental and operational challenges while improving the safety, efficiency, and sustainability across the Ports of Tema.
