GI-KACE partners KTU to deliver digital skills training

The Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Koforidua Technical University (KTU) to provide digital skills training to communities in the Eastern Region.

This partnership is part of GI-KACE’s eSkills4Jobs initiative, which aligns with Ghana’s national digitalization agenda and the Ghana Digital Acceleration Project (GDAP).

Focus on digital skills for job creation
At the MoU signing ceremony, Ing. Dr. Collins Yeboah-Afari, Director General of GI-KACE, expressed excitement about the partnership.
He emphasized that this collaboration would facilitate the implementation of the eSkills4Jobs program, aimed at preparing Ghana’s workforce for the digital economy.
“The eSkills4Jobs initiative aims to foster a resilient ecosystem to prepare Ghana’s workforce for the digital economy,” Ing. Dr. Yeboah-Afari stated.
The initiative will offer training programs focused on enhancing digital skills and capacity development in the Eastern Region.
Prof. John Owusu, Vice-Chancellor of KTU, shared his optimism, stating that the programmme will significantly benefit the youth and local communities by equipping them with practical skills to stimulate economic growth and create a digitally literate workforce.

Expanding GI-KACE’s national reach
GI-KACE, established over two decades ago, has been instrumental in bridging the digital divide in both urban and rural communities in Ghana.
With branches in Bono-Sunyani, Upper West-Bolga, and Greater Accra, this new partnership with KTU represents a crucial step toward expanding digital skills training nationwide.
The partnership aims to empower students and community members by providing training in areas such as Web Technology, Data Analytics, Data Science, Graphic Design, Cybersecurity, Digital Marketing, and more.

Notable attendees and program launch
The MoU signing event saw attendance from key figures, including Frederick Yeboah, Director of Research and Innovation at GI-KACE; Kobi Hemaa Osisiadan-Bekoe, Director of Corporate Affairs at GI-KACE; Evelyn Fafa Adom, Registrar at KTU; and other prominent leaders from both institutions.
The eSkills4Jobs training officially began on October 14, 2024, across several regions including Greater Accra, Ashanti, Volta, Bono, Northern, and Eastern regions. Participants will receive hands-on training in cutting-edge digital fields, preparing them for careers in the growing digital economy.
