Ghana Link refutes claims of Weighbridge System failure

Ghana Link Network Services Ltd has refuted claims made by the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, regarding the functionality of the weighbridge system under the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS) at Tema Port.
The company insists that the allegations, which surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), are misleading and inaccurate.
According to Ghana Link, the weighbridges at Tema Port were fully operational at the time of the visit by Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, and Minister Nikpe.
The company clarified that the claim suggesting the system was “non-operational” is false and does not reflect the reality on the ground.
Ghana Link explained that the Minister’s inquiry was not about the functionality of the system but rather its enforcement. Minister Nikpe observed that some trucks were bypassing the weighbridges and sought clarification as to why all vehicles were not being weighed.

In response, Ghana Link stated that the weighbridge process is currently in a piloting phase, which accounts for certain trucks not being required to pass through at this stage.
This phased approach is intended to facilitate a smooth transition toward full implementation while ensuring the free flow of traffic at the port.
Regarding the handling of overloaded vehicles, Ghana Link noted that Customs is engaging with the Ghana Highway Authority and Port Authorities to establish a seamless data-sharing mechanism on axle weight compliance.
Once the system is fully operational, it will help enforce axle load limits and enhance efficiency within Ghana’s trade and logistics sector.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, efficiency, and compliance in the country’s trade ecosystem.
It urged media outlets to engage in fact-based reporting to prevent misinformation that could undermine public confidence in critical national infrastructure initiatives.
