The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 10 new cases of monkeypox in Ghana, bringing the total number of recorded infections to 19.
According to the GHS, five of the newly confirmed patients are currently hospitalised and undergoing treatment. Fortunately, no deaths have been reported in connection with the latest monkeypox outbreak in Ghana.
Mpox is a viral disease that is transmitted to humans through close contact with an infected person or animal, or with material contaminated with the virus. Symptoms typically include rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.
Health officials are urging the public to remain vigilant, adhere to hygiene protocols, and promptly report any suspected symptoms to healthcare providers.
The Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service earlier reassured the general public that there is no cause for widespread alarm.
