Ghanaian football loving fans will today September 4, 2022 have the rare opportunity to take souvenir photos with the FIFA World Cup trophy in Accra.
The trophy will be displayed at the Accra Polo grounds today, Sunday, September 4, 2022 for fans to seize the opportunity to take photos with the original trophy.
Ghana’s Black Stars are scheduled to play Portugal on November 24, South Korea (November 28) and Uruguay (December 2) in Group H of the World Cup.
Ghana qualified for four FIFA World Cup tournaments in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022.
In 2006, Ghana was the only African side to advance to the Second Round of 2006 FIFA World Cup and was the sixth nation in a row from Africa to progress beyond the group stages of the World Cup.
The World Cup trophy arrived on Saturday, September 3, 2022 for a two-day tour in the capital, and Ghana is the first Africa country to host the trophy ahead of Senegal, Cameroon, Morocco, and Tunisia.
The trophy was brought to Ghana by the Ambassador of Coca Cola and former FIFA World Cup winner David Trezeguet, officials from FIFA and headline sponsor Coca Cola.
The team was met on arrival by the Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif, Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku and Prof. Peter Twumasi, Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA).
The 18-karate gold trophy arrived on Saturday morning at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra under tight security.
The spellbinding journey – which, for the first time, is offering all 32 qualified nations the chance to see football’s biggest prize up close – will finish in Doha, Qatar just a few days before the greatest show on Earth gets under way on 20 November 2022.
The tour is to offer fans the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the glittering coveted trophy that will be battled for by 32 countries at the world cup.
In total, the 2022 edition will stop in 51 countries and territories, taking Coca-Cola and FIFA one step closer to the goal of the trophy visiting each of FIFA’s 211 member associations by 2030.

At events in each city, fans have the opportunity to have a souvenir photo taken of themselves with the trophy, view a special 3-D movie showcasing memorable moments of the FIFA World Cup, participate in interactive displays and enjoy other entertainment.
The authentic FIFA World Cup trophy is presented to the winning team on the field of play at each tournament.
The iconic trophy measures 36.8 centimetres (14.5 inches) high, weighs in at 6,175 grams (13.61 pounds) and is made of solid, 18-carat gold.
The base contains two layers of semi-precious malachite, while the bottom side of the Trophy bears the engraved year and name of each FIFA World Cup winner since 1974.
The Coca-Cola Company has had a formal association with Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) since 1974 and an official sponsorship of FIFA World Cup that began in 1978.
