The Government of Ghana has strongly condemned Israel’s recent airstrikes on the sovereign State of Qatar, describing the attacks as “unprovoked” and a “clear violation of international law.”

In a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Ghana expressed grave concern over the casualties, loss of lives, and destruction of property resulting from the strikes.

The government emphasized that the assault was not only an affront to Qatar’s sovereignty but also a setback to ongoing peace efforts in the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

President John Dramani Mahama, on behalf of the people of Ghana, extended solidarity to the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the citizens of Qatar during what the statement described as “these difficult times.”

The Government of Ghana commended Qatar for its “tireless and impressive commitment” toward finding a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

The statement further appealed to the international community to ensure that the incident does not derail Qatar’s ongoing diplomatic initiatives aimed at fostering peace in the region.

The declaration reflects Ghana’s consistent foreign policy stance of supporting dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful conflict resolution in international disputes.

Israel launches airstrikes

Israel has carried out an airstrike in Doha, targeting a meeting of Hamas officials that reportedly included the group’s chief ceasefire negotiator.

Hamas confirmed that six people were killed, among them the son of exiled Gaza leader Khalil al-Hayya, but said its senior leadership and negotiating team survived.

The strike came just hours after Israel’s military ordered all residents of Gaza City to evacuate ahead of a planned offensive to seize what it described as Hamas’s final stronghold, where hundreds of thousands remain trapped under famine conditions.

Israel said the strike on Doha was in retaliation for a Hamas-claimed shooting in Jerusalem on Monday that left six Israelis dead.

According to Gaza health officials, more than 65,000 Palestinians have been killed in the coastal enclave since the conflict began.

Qatar, alongside the United States and Egypt, has played a key role in mediation efforts to end the war, which was triggered by Hamas’s unprecedented assault on Israel on 7 October 2023.
