The Ghana Association of Writers (GAW) has joined the nation in mourning the eight public officials and military personnel who lost their lives in the recent helicopter crash.

The association released a statement on August 13, 2025, expressing its condolences to the families of the deceased and the country as a whole.

The victims, who were on active duty in service to Ghana, included prominent figures such as Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the Minister for Defence, and Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation.

The GAW extended its sympathies to the various organisations and families affected by the crash, including the NDC, the Ministry of Defence, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, the National Security Council Secretariat, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

In its statement, signed by President Dr. Camynta Baezie, the association commended President John Dramani Mahama for his “strong show of fortitude and leadership” during this period of national grief.

They also acknowledged former Presidents John Agyekum Kuffour and Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as well as former Vice-President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for their efforts to unite the nation.

“They are gone but not forgotten,” the statement concluded, offering prayers for the souls of the deceased.

Ghana will today, Friday, August 15, 2025, bid a final farewell to the eight victims of the military helicopter crash.

Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana has requested technical assistance from the United States (U.S.) to help conduct a transparent and credible investigation into the disaster.
