The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) is appealing to motorists for patience following recent public demonstrations over the poor condition of the Ofankor-Nsawam road.
The Authority has acknowledged the public’s complaints, particularly concerning the section between Sapeiman and Medie/Sansam junction, and is reassuring drivers that efforts are underway to address the issues.
In a public announcement issued on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the GHA confirmed that contractors are actively working on the distressed parts of the road.
According to the release, significant progress was made as of Monday, August 18, with about five work crews on-site to improve the road’s surface and enhance safety for all users.
The crews are operating on both the northbound and southbound lanes.
The GHA emphasised that, while work is in progress, motorists and commuters should exercise patience and caution.
The Authority is urging drivers to cooperate with traffic wardens and flagmen to prevent gridlock. Law enforcement agencies have also been engaged to assist with traffic management and ensure the safety of road users.
The Authority apologised for the inconvenience caused to road users and assured of its commitment to completing the project.
Meanwhile, the government has officially commenced construction works on the long-awaited Pokuase to Nsawam highway project following the release of GH¢809 million to the contractor.
The dualization project, which forms part of the Accra–Kumasi road network, is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion, enhance road safety, and improve travel time between Accra and the Eastern Region.
The Pokuase to Nsawam road is a key highway linking Greater Accra with the Eastern, Ashanti, and northern regions. The project aims to ease traffic, improve transportation, and boost economic activity along the busy corridor upon completion by the contractor.
