A devastating fire outbreak at Akyempim in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region has claimed the lives of seven family members, including five children and two adults.
According to reports, the fire, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, November 1, 2025, was allegedly set by the husband of one of the victims, who later took his own life.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded promptly to the distress call, arriving at the scene within 16 minutes. However, despite their efforts, the seven family members were tragically unable to be rescued.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect set the bedroom on fire, padlocking it from the outside before fleeing to a nearby bush, where he took his own life.
The charred bodies of the victims were handed over to the Ghana Police Service, who later discovered the suspect’s body in the bush.
The GNFS has extended its condolences to the bereaved family and is urging the public to remain vigilant and fire safety conscious.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety and the need for prompt action in emergencies.
The GNFS has reiterated its commitment to saving lives and protecting properties, and encourages the public to report any fire outbreaks immediately.
